About Me

A Sociologist by choice, a writer by passion, and a humanitarian at heart.

As a child, I have always had certain tenderness for the deprived, whether it's people or animals. Whenever someone asked or talked about ambitions in life, I remember always telling my mother afterwards that all I want to do is help people. I would tell her, when I grow up, whoever or whatever I may become, I want to help those who are in need; able to serve humanity through my work would be the greatest feeling. That truth remains the same today.

While growing up, I have always loved poetry and literature. And at some point, reading and writing became my saving grace, and I gradually fell for it. Seeing my passion, no wonder why friends always thought I would opt for literature.

However, with my heart in humanity, I began to find great urge for a deeper understanding of society - of the everyday world we live in, in hopes of discovering solutions to the issues we're facing.... Or in otherwords, be a bridge between worlds(the Haves and Have-Nots), and a voice for the disadvantaged through Sociology by writing, teaching and more. (which is why I also love teaching!)

As a teacher and a Sociologist, I believe that it is important to help students discover their identity and strength, and empower them through-out so that they may one day be able stand up on their own and help empower more people. It is also vital to help these future leaders to establish a 'sociological-imagination' - to stand in other people's shoes( "the disadvantaged", "the privileged", "the colored", "the other", "the middle-class", etc.), to see from their point of view; it is crucial to help young people discover the courage to display empathy. Because the power of empathy is such that it makes people sensible and understanding enough to turn life around, and make a better, peaceful life for everyone.
